Francisco P. Valenzuela III Born in El Paso Texas, Began serious work in photography in 1980. Studied photography at the art department in Vancouver, Washington under photographers and artists Jim Lehman and Bob Baker from 1980 to 1984. Then taught black and white photography at Fort Vancouver Collage. During that time Francisco also judged photo contests and gave talks at photo clubs. First one man show in Battleground Washington Art Center in 1981. First magazine publication in American Forestry Magazine in 1981. First magazine cover in 1982 in United Airlines magazine. Also in 1982 Francisco began the most extensive long-term re-photography documentation study at Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument. This re-photography project is still on going after almost 20 years. This work has been published and used for environmental education courses and research. Much of this work was influenced by landscape photographer and professor at Harvard University, Frank Gohlke who Francisco worked closely with in 1982 and 1983. Produced first large color photographic poster in 1986. Over 10,000 sold. In 1990 Produced second large color photographic poster of the Tropical rainforest of Puerto Rico, El Yunque. Began additional photographic education at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin from 1992 to 1996. Influenced to explore portraiture and fashion by photographer and teacher Frances Ford. Opened a small studio in Milwaukee in 1996 and began portraiture, fashion, glamour and other commercial and personnel work. First one man show in Milwaukee in fall of 1997. In 1999 moved to Golden Colorado and continue to work on personnel fine art related projects as well as continuing to do commercial work. First full page back cover advertisement photograph in Mountain Living magazine in December 2000. I began to work with digital photography in 1993 with Photoshop 3 and am now becoming proficient at advanced color and contrast work in Photoshop 6 and shoot in digital as well as tradition photography. Francisco's work is on permanent display at several major visitor centers and am working on a one man show for fall of 2002 in Golden Colorado. Francisco feels lucky to have had the opportunity to meet and learn from many fine photographers and having learned to see just a bit more deeply. |
